Black and White (and a bit in between) by Celerie Kemble

I am a firm believer in the use of black in design, I am sure we all know that.  I think it gives that classic clean edge that every space needs.  I put this book on my Christmas list this year (I am a design book junkie) and I completely LOVE it!  I am amazed by how many of the photos in the book I have used here on the blog.

Celerie Kemble did a great job in bringing some great interiors together and she even has a chapter devoted to my sweet grey!!  So I have still got to read more of it but I thought I would let you all know that it is a great hard copy of some really great design photos out there with some great content on design itself brought to you in a very down to earth way.

Also, I added a little design library link on the bottom of the blog if you are looking for some great inspiration in hard copy most of my favorites are there!

The Business of Design book signing

Last night I was lucky enough to attend a wonderful book signing for Keith Granet at Molly Wood Garden Design.  Molly is the sweetest and we seem to see one another EVERYWHERE!  Her shop and offices are in a little house and are so well done- I love it there and always seem to find something special to come home with not to mention she is a fantastic Landscape Designer.  I am dying over this vase in the first picture..  must need to go on my Christmas list!

I grabbed a copy of his book a little while back and have only had a chance to read a little bit of it.  It was fantastic to hear him speak about design as a business and our industry in general.  I definitely need to read it cover to cover because he made so pretty great points about the value of hiring a designer and how we should be letting our clients know this.

Molly and Keith

I think Keith's book is a must have for anyone who is just starting in design or has been working in the field.  It is full of great information about Design as a business and why we should treat it as such.

(soo sorry about the picture quality.. just a little point and shoot)

Day Dreaming...

I am day dreaming of a sweet little apartment in the heart of Paris just like this one.  Instead of being here enjoying baguettes, cheese and wine, we are taking pictures for our upcoming One Kings Lane sale today.  It is amazing how much work goes into a sale.  Everyone at OKL is really great and a real joy to work with which is so nice to see in a growing company like theirs.

Wishing you a wonderful day filled with dreams like this little beauty.. I suppose we have to work hard to get to a place like this one, right?

Workspace

This does not seem completely practical for actual work but I like it.  The floor is amazing and the lights are very very cool!

So I have decided that the greige fairytale series has run it's course here and I need to move onto something new!  Any ideas?
I have a few but would love to hear what you think and what you would like to see.

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday!  This porch makes me think of lazy Sunday afternoons spent reading a book, an actual paper book with real pages, imagine that.

Suzanne Rheinstein's book At Home

Hollyhock

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of attending a talk at the LDC with Suzanne Rheinstein.
It was great to hear her speak about her new line of fabrics with Lee Jofa and her book At Home: A style for today with things from the past.  She is so sweet and friendly.  Her attention to detail in her style and design is amazing.  Suzanne discussed how her travels and life influence her design and the different fabrics that she put together with Lee Jofa.  The book is full of the most beautiful photos of her designs and her homes- love it!

It is always so nice to meet people in person - I highly suggest if given the chance that you go out and meet and attend as many of these great events that the design centers across the country host.  It is perfect way to personalize their design and see what inspires them in their work, which in turn will inspire you!

For more about Suzanne check here and here you can also grab a copy of her beautiful book on the right!
